RN, NP, LPN, RPN

Nurses are the backbone of Alberta’s healthcare system. Whether they are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), or Nurse Practitioners (NPs), nurses are there at every step of the healthcare journey. They are the ones at the bedside, providing comfort during moments of uncertainty, advocating for patients and families, and delivering compassionate, skilled care when it matters most. From hospitals and community clinics to long-term care homes and remote settings, nurses ensure that people across Alberta receive safe, high-quality care every single day.

Their work goes far beyond medical treatment. Nurses build trust, support mental and emotional well-being, educate patients about their health, and help people navigate difficult and sometimes life-changing experiences. They are problem-solvers, leaders, collaborators, and innovators who constantly adapt to the evolving needs of our communities. Because of their dedication, commitment, and specialized knowledge, nurses help improve patient outcomes and strengthen the healthcare system as a whole.

But the demands on nurses continue to grow. They take on complex responsibilities, care for diverse and aging populations, and respond to urgent health challenges across the province. To continue delivering the level of care Albertans rely on, nurses need opportunities for ongoing learning, advanced training, and professional support. By standing behind nurses in their education and development, we help ensure they are equipped to provide the very best care — today and into the future.

Nurses are truly the lifeline of healthcare in Alberta. They are there in our most vulnerable moments, offering skill, compassion, and hope. When nurses are supported, our communities are stronger, healthier, and better cared for. And that benefits every one of us.

For the first time, the Ben Stelter Foundation and ANET have teamed up to fund nursing-driven research. The study has already launched—groundbreaking, nursing-led research examining the velocity of pupil restriction in some of the most critically ill children in Western Canada. The goal is to see if we can predict which children are at risk of deterioration in the next 12 to 24 hours—and ultimately, how to prevent it.

Led by Wendy Beaudoin, Nurse Practitioner, this research has never been done before, anywhere in the world, on children. Tiny pupils, tiny children, measured in millimeters per second, with the potential to prevent devastating outcomes. Small measurements, small patients, huge implications.

Everyone will be touched by a nurse.
