FAQs: Funding for LPNs and RPNs
Answer: The $300,000 received from the FMEF was provided as an Endowment Fund, which was approved by the FMEF Board. Under the terms of this agreement, the principal amount must remain intact permanently to ensure a lasting legacy for FMEF educational funding in memory of Rita and Pat. As per the agreement, ARNET can only distribute the interest earned on the fund each year. Since the funding was received at the end of December 2024, the first distribution of interest earnings will take place in late 2025.
Question B: When will funding be available for LPN and RPN continuing education grants?
Answer: ARNET currently has funding for LPNs from the FMEF. However, under the agreement signed by the FMEF Board, interest from the FMEF funding cannot be distributed until late 2025 (see FAQ above for details).
In addition, we are working with the Government of Alberta to secure continuing education funding for LPNs and RPNs. These funds were previously administered by CLPNA and CRPNA. Once the grant funding for LPNs and RPNs is received, we will launch the LPN and RPN Continuing Education Grant Program through an online application process.
We will share any new information on the ARNET website and in our e-newsletter. To stay informed, please visit the homepage of the ARNET website and sign up for the newsletter at [ARNET | Alberta Registered Nurses Educational Trust] to be added to the email list.
Question C: Does that mean that courses I take this year as an LPN or RPN will not be eligible for funding?
Answer: We understand the concerns of LPNs and RPNs and are committed to being both responsive and fair. Once funding is received for distribution, we will assess and establish timelines to ensure fairness for courses taken this year.
