Brittany Hollett, RN

Meet Brittany Hollett, an Alberta-based Registered Nurse with plans to change the way end-of-life care occurs in the ICU for families.

“I got into the nursing profession by the power of suggestion. A family friend suggested that I would make a good nurse, so I applied to the program, got accepted and the rest is history. I had no idea at the time the profound impact this career would make on my life."

As a third-year Master of Nursing degree student at Athabasca University, Brittany is conducting research that focuses on the effect that end-of-life care experiences have on the traumatic grief of families.

"Being present with a grieving parent after the death of their child changes you. After working for years in the pediatric ICU, I knew this was a subject that needed further research. No parent is ever prepared for that moment and as nurses, we need to be better prepared to help support them in their most difficult moments."

ARNET was proud to support Brittany with educational grant funding to help progress her nursing education and research & improve healthcare for all Albertans.

Paige Sweluk, RN

With the help of ARNET Educational Grant Funding, Paige Sweluk was able to attend Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training in hopes of returning to her dream nursing position in pediatrics.

We are pleased to announce that Paige was hired onto a pediatric unit in Alberta because of the knowledge and skills she gained through the two-day PALS course!

"Thank you for donating to ARNET, without this financial aid continuing nursing education programs, like PALS, would be inaccessible to nurses like me."

Ryan Carlson, RN

Thanks to funding from ARNET I was able to continue my specialty certificate in addiction and mental health nursing. As a clinical nurse educator (CNE), I am ideally situated to share my knowledge with the entire mental health team. I could not have continued my studies without the generous support of ARNET, thank you to our donors for continuing to propel the nursing profession forward.

Victoria Nguyen, RN

As a nurse in adolescent psychiatry, the Indigenous Studies course I completed helped me gain a personal understanding and deep appreciation for indigenous culture. it challenged me to learn how to advocate actively through my voice and actions. I have since registered for a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide mental health support to residential school survivors, families, and communities attending the Papal visit in July.

Daphne Smith, RN

Without the generosity and support from ARNET donors, I wouldn’t be able to pursue further knowledge and education by completing the pediatric advanced life support and pediatric emergency assessment courses. This is my first year as a pediatric registered nurse with a big student loan so this funding made a huge difference. Most importantly, this funding makes an impact on every pediatric patient I work with on a daily basis I've definitely seen a huge change in my practice after these courses thanks to you.
