Fredrickson McGregor Education Endowment Fund for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
Question: Why can't ARNET distribute the funding from the Fredrickson McGregor Foundation (FMEF) for LPNs now?
Answer: The $300,000 received from the FMEF was provided as an Endowment Fund, which was approved by the FMEF Board. Under the terms of this agreement, the principal amount must remain intact permanently to ensure a lasting legacy for FMEF educational funding in memory of Rita and Pat. As per the agreement, ARNET can only distribute the interest earned on the fund each year. Since the funding was received at the end of December 2024, the first distribution of interest earnings will take place in late 2025.
With the dissolution of the Fredrickson McGregor Education Foundation for LPNs on December 31, 2024, $300,000 of funding for LPN educational grants was transferred to ARNET. ARNET is honoured to be the recipient of this endowment fund to support continuing education for LPNs.
This funding is for members of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) to enhance their nursing knowledge, skills and ability.
The Endowment Fund honours the contributions of Pat Fredrickson (retired CLPNA Executive Director/Registrar) and Rita McGregor (retired CLPNA Director of Practice & Policy) to the profession of Licensed Practical Nursing.
