Edmonton Nursing Research Luncheon 2024

It was a HUGE success!!

Thank you to the sold out crowd of over 140 guests that joined us for the ARNET Nursing Research Luncheon. We came together to raise funds to support Alberta’s Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners in their continuing education and research pursuits.  And for this we thank you. The funds raised will support the research undertaken by RNs and nurse practitioners that would otherwise go unfunded and new interventions that could otherwise go undiscovered.

Our speakers gave us a glimpse into work being done each and every day to benefit patient care in Alberta.  They shared amazing stories about the work they are doing to improve patient and family care in Alberta. We are fortunate to have such passionate Nurse Researchers striving to advance patient care and make a difference in the healthcare community.

You can find out more about these Nurse Researchers below. We thank them for sharing their unforgettable stories of bravery, resilience and hope.

And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated door prizes, purchased tickets or tables and made a donation!

We hope you will join us in October for the Calgary Nursing Research Luncheon.  Stay tuned for the announcement of the date!

Our Speakers

The MEDi-Kids Study

Patricia Candelaria, RN (left) and Dr. Samina Ali (right) are researching ways to lessen children’s fear in pediatric emergency waiting rooms using a humanoid robot called MEDi. ARNET is funding this research which will be presented at the luncheon.  One of many exciting speakers.

Patricia is registered nurse and is the Program Manager of the Pediatric Emergency: Advancing Knowledge (PEAK) Research Team at the University of Alberta. With her mentor, Dr. Samina Ali, Professor of Pediatrics and Research Director, they have developed a study using a humanoid robot, specifically programmed to deliver brief, psychology-based interventions and distraction, to improve children’s experiences in the ED waiting room. The robot will distract children with music and dance and engage the child in guided relaxation techniques without any direct touch (minimizing infection risks).
