Cass and Anna, a nurse and researcher with Alberta Health Services, presented their groundbreaking project aimed at improving cancer diagnosis in Alberta’s emergency departments (EDs) at the ARNET Calgary Research Event in November 2024.

With cancer affecting so many lives, timely and accurate diagnosis is critical for better outcomes. Cass and Anna worked with healthcare providers in Edmonton and Calgary, uncovering key insights into the challenges faced in EDs when diagnosing cancer. Through personal stories and lessons learned, they explored how these findings are shaping new initiatives to enhance early detection and patient care. This project, along with many others making a tangible impact, is made possible by the invaluable support of ARNET, which plays a crucial role in advancing nursing research capacity in Alberta.

I’m grateful to ARNET for the opportunity to take part in this important research. Supporting nurses at all levels empowers them to shape health solutions and feel heard—an essential part of retaining front-line staff. Thank you to everyone contributing to nursing research; your support truly makes a difference.”
