Lynda Margaret Day Memorial Scholarship Announcement

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Lynda Margaret Day Memorial Scholarship in honour and remembrance of Lynda. The scholarship was created by her family to commemorate the life and achievements of an exceptional individual.

Lynda graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in nursing in 1960. Her nursing career included working in hospital and teaching at the University of Saskatchewan. She spent many years working in executive roles at the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses (AARN).

Lynda’s experience and knowledge made her the perfect candidate for many positions. Lynda began her employment at AARN as Assistant to the Executive Director and went on to take on roles including Registrar and Acting Executive Director upon her retirement in 1994.

Lynda played a significant role in establishing the Alberta Registered Nurses Educational Trust (ARNET) as a registered charity, in 1985, to provide grants and scholarships for continuing education of registered nurses in Alberta. She managed ARNET for many years in her staff role at AARN and supported the ARNET Board with the hiring of the first staff member of ARNET. Lynda continued her involvement with ARNET as a member of the ARNET Board of Directors following her retirement from AARN.

A great leader, mentor, colleague, and person made Lynda loved by all. Lynda had a special place in her heart for family and friends. She was generous, loving, and strong and always put others first. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious laughter and sense of humour. She made work and life so much better for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The Lynda Margaret Day Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in June 2023 by Lynda’s family to honour Lynda’s memory and to provide ongoing funds for registered nurses committed to pursuing advanced education to become nurse practitioners.
